Fort McKavett: Archeology Day

October 13 at (All day)

Fort McKavett Archeology Day 2012

As part of Texas Archeology Month programs, Fort McKavett will host an Archeology Day on October 13, 2012. A guided tour will be offered at 1:30 p.m. to the Native American camping grounds on site, which were used historically by the Jumano and LIpan Apaches (possibly even the Comanche and Kickapoo). A brief history of the grounds will be given and attendees will be able to see several of the 20+ grinding holes in the limestone bluffs overlooking the Government Springs, where the indigenous peoples ground acorns and mesquite beans into flour.
