Fort McKavett : The Army's Stomach: Foodways at Fort McKavett

January 14 at 10:00am to at 4:00pm

Napoleon once said that “an army moves on its stomach.” Without food, soldiers would have a hard time fighting the enemy, which is why the Army issued them basic rations consisting of meat, beans, and bread. This, however, was not the sum of the soldier’s diet. The presence of the garden is proof that the soldiers definitely ate well!
