San Angelo: EnPleinAirTexas 2018

October 20, 2018 (All day) to October 28, 2018 (All day)
EnPleinAirTexas
En Plein Air, a French term for "in the open air"

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts welcomes you and the top Plein Air artists in the world to San Angelo. The annual EnPleinAirTEXAS is one of the top  competitions in the country and attracts award-winning artist applicants from coast to coast and from outside the U.S. The artists are selected, and the competition is judged, by nationally respected jurors and judges in the field of art.

In the mid-1800’s, Impressionist artists began painting on location, or ‘En Plein Air’ – a French term meaning ‘in the open air’.  Today, artists seek to capture that same intriguing light and shadow outdoors, and gather in ‘plein air’ events across the country, turning ordinary scenes into extraordinary works of art.

This is an opportunity to watch over the shoulders and meet some of the best and friendliest out door painters around. Visitors are wowed and entertained with a host of colorful events and special opportunities to meet and interact with the artists.

  • Stroll the International Water Lily Gardens among the artists painting on site
  • Watch and learn at free artists talks and demonstrations

The paintings are exhibited and are for sale during the final weekend in the Quartermaster Building at Fort Concho, a National Historic Landmark built in 1868 and the first home of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.
