Cross Plains : Robert E. Howard Days

Robert E. Howard was an extremely prolific writer who lived in Cross Plains during his entire writing career.  Althought he is probably best known for his Conan, the Barbarian stories, he also wrote western, detective and boxing stories, poetry, as well as creating numerous other characters such as Solomon Kane, El Boark, King Kull, and his somewhat bumbling mountain main, Breckenridge Elkins.

Headquartered at the Howard Home, the two-day conference will include panel discussions, special tours of the Museum and the surrounding areas, an award ceremony, celebrationdinner and silent austion.

Special Guest of Honor will be Patrice Louinet one of the premier scholars in Howard Studies. Louinet will lead at least one of the panels in addition to being the speaker at the Celebration Dinner on Friday eveing, where he will discuss "Howard History."

Friday, June, 13

8:30-9:00am: Coffee and donuts at the Pavilion; compliments of Project Pride

9am-4:00 pm: Robert E. Howard House open to the public

9am-4:00pm: REH Postal Cancellation at Cross Plains Post Office

9am-11:00am: Bus Tour of Cross Plains and Surrounding Areas 

10am- 4:00pm: Pavilion available for REH items Swap Meet 

10am-5:00pm: Cross Plains Public Library Open 

11:00am: Panel: "In the Guise of Fiction" 

Noon: Lunch hosted by Project Pride. Donations Welcome. 

1:30 pm: Panel: Patrice Louinet, Guest of Honor 

2:30 pm: Presentation of the REH Foundation 2013 awards

5:30-6:30: Silent Auction items available for viewing and bidding at banquet site

6:30 pm: Robert E. Howard Celebration Banquet and Silent Auction at the Cross Plains Community Center 

9:00pm: Panel- Fists at the Ice House (behind the Texas Taxidermy building on Main Street) 

Afterwards there will be some extemporaneous REH poetry reading at the pavilion. 

Saturday, June, 14

9am-4:00: Robert E. House Museum open to the public

9am-4:00: Barbarian Festival at Treadway Park, (3 blocks west of REH House)

Time TBA- Barbarian Blast: 5k run sponsored by Festival Committee

10am-3:00pm: Cross Plains Public Library open

10am-4:00: Pavilion available for REH items swap meet

10:30am: Panel: "The Legend Continues" 

Lunch and Festival Activities at your leisure during the day

2:00pm: Panel- "Fists of Iron"

3:30pm: Panel- What's Up with REH?

5:00pm: Sunset BBQ at Caddo Peak Ranch
