Albany: Winter Star Party

January 28 at 6:30pm to at 10:30pm

You will have the opportunity to see planets, nebulas, distant galaxies, our own galaxy, and much more! In addition to our usual night time observing, there will be hot cocoa and smores available, as well as a place to warm back up!

Fort Griffin has gained quite the reputation for having some of the darkest night skies in all of Texas. Due to the remote location of the site (although only 45 minutes from Abilene), there is minimal light pollution to hinder nighttime viewing of the stars. With such a great resource at our disposal, we don’t want to let it go to waste.

Program will be held in the parking lot of the visitor center, which is on the west side of Highway 283 near the fort. The price for the event is regular admission to the site. Site staff will collect admission near the parking area, if arriving after hours. Please dim headlights when coming up the hill. Dress warm, as this will most definitely be our coldest event of the year!
