Abilene’s current military activity centers on Dyess Air Force Base. Dyess is the country’s only training center for B-1B bomber crews, and it houses an Air Force Global Strike Command Wing with two B-1B Squadrons, as well as an Airlift Mobility Command Wing with two C-130J Squadrons. The public is invited to visit the Dyess Memorial Center for an overview of the base and its history and to tour the outdoor Linear Air Park with its 34 aircraft from World War II to the present.

Watch the following video to learn more about World War II airfields and pilot training in Texas. This video was produced for inclusion in the World War II on the Texas Home Front mobile tour found in our Texas Time Travel mobile app. Learn more about the tour and the app on the World War II theme page at the following link: http://texastimetravel.com/travel-themes/main-world-war-ii
