Comanche: Durham-Ellis Pecan Company

The Durham Pecan Company was founded in 1928 by W. M. Durham, Sr., with the goal of providing the a fresh, high-quality product to its customers. Durham also wanted to help people earn money during difficult economic times, so he set up long tables for workers to shell pecans by hand, earning money when the pecan meat was weighed.  A merger in 1998 created the Durham-Ellis Pecan Company that works more than 10,000 acres of native pecan trees in Comanche County. Handpicking continues to be used in combination with the company’s state of the art equipment to shell, roast and package their products. Groups are invited to tour the facility for an educational - and tasty - experience!
